Dark Denim

Thought denim was just for the weekend? Think again. There are plenty of ways you can introduce the dark denim trend into your working 9-5 wardrobe. Simply team chic, denim flares with your favourite slim knit; style a polished denim jacket with a crisp floral shirt; or go head-to-toe denim in a tailored and sophisticated suit. A pop of colourful accessories will help break up those intense, inky washes.

Playful Pastels

These ice cream hues may look delicate but here’s how to keep your outfit sharper, less sweet. Pair your pastels with neutral shades, such as a structured white blazer or warm tan accessories. Tasselled brogues (or graphic mules) will help ground your look and add ladylike elegance. Finally, look for statement detailing to raise the bar – high collars, nipped-in waists, flounce sleeves and uneven hemlines.

Floral Fantasy

Florals can easily be given a relaxed, tomboy edge. Can’t be removed from your slouchy jeans this season? For a quirky-yet-cool look, layer them with a floral kimono dress and your go-to slogan tee. Finally, add a pair of white boots (every stylist’s key buy at the moment). Or give a floral dress extra street-style points by adding a denim bomber, hip headscarf and chunky sneakers.

MAD ABOUT PLAID

Pair your plaid pieces with other wardrobe staples to make this iconic pattern more attainable; try styling a plaid jumpsuit with your box-fresh white trainers, or a plaid blazer with your midi skirt. Tip: if you fancy clashing your checks in one outfit then make sure the plaid squares are different patterns and colours for a laidback, undone vibe.

EYES

First, follow your natural lash line to the end, then angle the eyeliner for the winged-out flick. Look down when you’re applying eyeliner and, to help steady and anchor the hand you’re using, rest your little finger on your cheek. If you’re struggling with the winged-out look, use the back of a spoon or some eye tape to help guide your line.

LIPS

Go for a fresh red lip with a diffused edge, rather than a perfectly painted finish. Gently apply a lip scrub to prepare your lips, then use your fingers to delicately press the colour onto your lips (rather than using a brush or the applicator). This gives it a laidback, undone feel – perfect for summer. Keep the rest of your skin fresh, with some simple dark lashes.

BROWS

Use a gel eyebrow mascara and brush your brows upward. Wherever needed, fill in sparse hairs with an eyebrow pencil (go for the same colour as your brows, not darker). Use small, single strokes for each sparse hair, rather than drawing in block colour. Finish with a creamy highlighter in the arch of your brow.
