Your school shoes guide
Head to Centrale & Whitgift for your back-to-school footwear
Thought about the new school term yet? (Admit it, you’re counting the days…) We called on blogger fashionmumof40 for her ultimate back-to-school shoes advice to make sure both you AND the kids are prepped for the first day. With the school holidays drawing to an end, I must admit I’m slightly looking forward to the return of routine and sending them back to school. Although, maybe not the school shoes shopping trip! It can be a challenge putting our style-conscious kids into footwear that both their headteacher and they will be happy in.
TOP TIPS FOR BUYING SCHOOL SHOES
Read the small print Before you purchase your children's school footwear, make sure you read your own school uniform guidelines, you don't want to make an expensive mistake. Whether you need classic black school shoes or something more casual – be in the know! Look for styles they'll love If your child is allowed the ‘trainer-like’ school shoe… then result! Children seem to love this style (think Nike school shoes) and are happy to wear them with no arguments in the school morning rush, which can be stressful enough without any major ‘getting dressed’ arguments. Look for features you'll love Not only will the trainer-style school shoe tick your child’s boxes, it’ll tick yours as well. Thanks to their leather uppers and chunky rubber soles, they’re really hardwearing so will last more than the first week. Look for Velcro rip tapes, too. This feature is great for smaller children as it gives them the independence to put their shoes on themselves. Get their feet measured My final tip – and it’s a biggie – is to ALWAYS get your children's feet properly measured before investing in their school shoes. This is not only vital for their own comfort and foot health, it’s also vital for your purse strings! Head to Clarks in Centrale & Whitgift to get your kids feet measured properly!

THE BEST KIDS’ TRAINERS
School shoes sorted. Big tick to you. Now what about the children’s trainers? I’ve rounded up three that your kids will be desperate to get their feet in. Perfect for pimping up their PE kit (if you trust them enough…) and even better for weekend posing. These trainers are totally unisex – boys AND girls will go crazy for them. And as I’ve chosen all black, it’ll take them longer to show the dirt.
1. The classic trainer
The original Adidas Gazelle: it looks equally cool with their PE kits and skinny jeans. It’s stood the test or time and is now a beloved streetwear classic, loved by everyone from pop stars and old school hip-hoppers.
Our pick: Adidas Originals Gazelle II Junior, £45, JD Sports
2. The cult trainer
The holy grail of trainers worn by all the rappers and top sports stars. Introducing this year's cult trainer: the Nike Air Max 90. With Nike's revolutionary chunky Air Sole, these will definitely turn heads in the playground.
Our pick: Nike Junior Air Max 90 Leather Trainer, £70, JD Sports
3. The retro trainer
The Vans Sk8-Hi has serious cool-factor credentials and is the footwear choice of celebs including Gigi Hadid and Brooklyn Beckham. They’ll add a laid-back vibe to all their outfits (to match their laid-back attitude to school, I’m sure).
